avid M. Kangas “Diggyâ€, 71, an 8-year resident of Edgewater and formerly of Cape Elizabeth, ME for 35 years, died suddenly of a heart attack on February 5, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born August 20, 1938 in Bellows Falls, VT, he was a 1960 graduate of Tufts University. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator on B-52s from 1960 to 1965 then worked for Smith Barney as a stockbroker for 33 years until his retirement in 1998. A member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater, Diggy loved skiing, golfing, sailing his boat on the Chesapeake Bay and the Casco Bay in Maine, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Joanne F. Kangas, whom he married in October 1960; one son, Mark Kangas of Morehead City, NC, one daughter, Leslie Ceresi of Ellicott City, MD, one sister, Audrey Wright of Windsor, VT and four grandchildren: Lauren and Matthew Kangas of Raleigh, NC, and Austin and Olivia Ceresi of Ellicott City, MD. Family and friends are invited to Diggy's Life Celebration on Monday from 4 to 7PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater,MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, February 9 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment private.
