David M. Young - Obituary

avid M. Young, 63, passed away on August 11, 2024, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born on July 3, 1961, to the late David H. and Victoria Young in Buckhannon, WV. He graduated in 1983 from West Virginia Wesleyan College. At 61, he retired as an insurance fraud investigator and then became Southern High School’s Tennis Coach. He is survived by his wife, Jeanine Young; his son, Wesley Young; two “bonus” children, Nicole Desimone (Joe) and Paul Robert; and three grandchildren, Jeremy (6), Gentry (5), and Leah (4). He is also survived by his sister, Joen Tayman, and her three children, Justin, Victoria, and Jarod. Dave loved working on his many Ducatis or his Porsche with his music turned up loud. Dave spent many weekends at the track with the Mid-Atlantic Ducati Official Club. He was an avid tennis player and the most patient coach; he was beloved by his students and led them to the 2024 Regional Championships. When not in the garage or playing tennis, you could find him watching movies with his homemade popcorn that he perfected over the years, meticulously mowing the lawn, or adapting to his new job as “pool boy.” As “Grandpa Dave”, he spent countless hours pouring love into the hearts of his grandkids, who adored him and couldn’t wait to have sleepovers (and enjoy his chocolate chip pancakes every morning), play Hot Wheels together, and watch Charlie & the Chocolate Factory over and over. A memorial service will be held at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Wednesday, August 21 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of the following organizations: 1)Roadracing World Action Fund, an organization aimed at providing soft barriers at racetracks for safety. 2)Southern High School Athletic Department.
