D

ennie Leroy Coffin, 64, an 18-year resident of West River, died of mitochondria myopathy Feb. 26 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a seven-year illness. Mr. Coffin was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Auburn, Calif., to Gloria Coffin of California. He graduated from Lodi Academy High School, where he was president and valedictorian and also held the high jump record. He earned a degree in theology from Avondale College in Australia and in respiratory therapy from La Sierra University. As a child, he worked in his family's wine vineyard. He was employed as a sales executive with Tischer Acura in Laurel and Dealers Greatest Asset of Ellicott City. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Tracys Landing. He enjoyed camping, the outdoors, traveling extensively all over the world and athletics, especially gymnastics. Survivors include his wife of four years, Janice Coffin; one son, Darren Coffin of Gaithersburg; one daughter, Britt McCormick of Ellicott City; one stepson, Bill Gorman of Washington, D.C.; two stepdaughters, Karen Winterling of Ellicott City and Michelle Richardson of Tracys Landing; two grandsons; and 10 stepgrandchildren. Relatives and friends may join in the celebration of his life at 5:30 p.m. March 8 at St. Mark's Episcopal Chapel, 361 Deale Road in Tracys Landing. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home.
