Dennis Robert Burchell - Obituary

ennis Robert Burchell “Denny” 8-year resident of Shady Side, MD and previously of Pennsylvania where he spent most of his life, died on January 19, 2010 at his home following a 6-month battle with cancer. Born July 19, 1949 in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Penn State in 1972 with a degree in criminal justice. Dennis worked as a construction manager for NDI Homes in Annapolis and was a former Prince George's County police officer. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting, riding his Harley and spending time with his family and friends. He was the husband of Terri Lynne Burchell, whom he married on August 28, 1971 and who died on April 28, 2009. He is survived by two daughters: Nicole Gee of North Beach, MD and Shannon Talbott of Churchton, MD; his father, Robert Burchell of Lewes, DE and two sisters: Debbie Gibbs of Lewes, DE and Kim Schubert of Havelock, NC. He is also survived by five grandchildren and was the son of the late Norma Burchell. Friends are invited to Dennis' Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 N Bldg A, Gambrills, MD 21054 or the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
