Denny Joseph Thomas - Obituary

D

enny Joseph Thomas, 81, a nine-year resident of Madison, FL, died January 21, 2022, after relocating to Maryland in August 2021 to spend time with his daughters and their families. Denny was born June 2, 1940, and after a 29-year career with the United States Coast Guard, retired as an E-9, Master Chief Petty Officer. Denny was a dedicated Officer and was proud to serve in Vietnam. He went on to pursue his second career at the United States Naval Academy. After retiring from the Naval Academy, he founded an organization called WONDERS (Widows Orphans Never Denied Everlasting Reasonable Services, Inc.). Through his nonprofit organization, WONDERS, Denny’s generosity shined as he was able to assist widows during their time of need. He even organized and hosted an annual dinner every January 27 for widows in Maryland, Florida, Alabama, and Nebraska. He was passionate about spreading the word of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He enjoyed teaching others about the Bible, especially the Ten Commandments, and how to love Jesus. Denny authored two books, Lovest Thou Me and How to Love Jesus. He was proud that all proceeds were donated to WONDERS. To relax, Denny would sit on his porch, soaking up the warm weather and observing the hummingbirds. Through his great sense of humor, he was always making people smile. He would frequently tell jokes and ask others to share a joke. No matter where he went, he would always ask whoever he met “What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?” Denny will be dearly missed by his children, Tammy LeBow (and her husband Bert) of Edgewater and Pamela Franke (and her husband John) of Havre de Grace; grandchildren Eric LeBow, Emily Mori (and her husband Christopher), Amber LeBow, and Katie Franke (and her partner Randi Shultz); and a great-grandson, Luke Mori. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, February 1 from 11 am-12:30 pm, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 pm, at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. It is requested that everyone attending the visitation and funeral wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations in Denny’s memory may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306. If you wish to view Denny's service live CLICK HERE
