LICK HERE FOR MR. CIUFFREDA'S VIDEO TRIBUTE Dominic "Dom" Ciuffreda, 74, a resident of Annapolis since 1979, died of cancer Oct. 27 at home after a lengthy illness. Born June 23, 1933, in Washington, D.C., Mr. Ciuffreda graduated from Maryland Park High School in 1951 and attended Florida State University on a football scholarship. In 1953, he enlisted in the Army. After being discharged from active duty, he began Central Distributors, a local beer company, in 1955 along with his father, the late Dominic Ciuffreda Sr. He later sold the company in 1996 and retired. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed fishing in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and Florida Keys. His interests also included traveling in the United States and Canada, hands-on building projects and competing in land and water sports, especially go-carts, cars and motorcycles during his earlier years. In his later years, he sailed competitively, winning the Governor's Cup Regatta in 1988 with his boat, Air Mail. His home port was the Annapolis Yacht Club. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Dale Ciuffreda; one son, David Ciuffreda of Dunkirk; two daughters, Dana Papavasilakis and Donna O'Malley, both of Annapolis; and four grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Burial is private.
