I

t is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dominic F. Cossa, a distinguished opera singer, and beloved professor, who left us on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Dominic’s illustrious singing career spanned over four decades, during which he graced the stages of the New York City and Metropolitan Opera houses, as well as numerous prestigious venues around the world. His powerful voice and captivating performances earned Dominic acclaim and admiration from audiences and critics alike. His dedication to the art of opera was not only evident in his performances but also in his commitment to nurturing the next generation of opera artists as a Professor of Music at the University of Maryland. His students remember him as an inspiring mentor who shared his passion and expertise with generosity and warmth. Dominic is survived by his loving wife, Jan; his son, Gian, and his wife Susie, his daughter, Francine, and her husband, Roberto; his cherished grandchildren, Heather and her husband, Joe, Lynsey, and James and his wife, Kari; and his adored great-grandchildren, Gianni, Gia, Leo, Willa, and Wolf. His legacy will live on through his family, students, colleagues, and the countless lives he touched with his music. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. There will be a Celebration of Life mass at St. John Neumann’s Church on November 14, 2024, at 10:30 AM, located at 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Dominic Cossa Scholarship Fund supporting students in the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland, in honor of Dominic’s lifelong dedication to the arts.
