Donald Charles Hemmer, Jr. - Obituary

D

onald (Don) Charles Hemmer, Jr. age 68, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland passed away on November 8, 2023 while traveling in Mainz, Germany with his wife Michiko (Mich) Hemmer. He was born in Washington, DC to the late Donald Sr. and Jeanne Hemmer. Don was a devoted and loving husband to Mich, father to his five children, and granddad or granddoodle to his eleven grandchildren. They shared forty-eight years of marriage together. He graduated from the electrical IBEW local 26 apprenticeship in 1978. He retired in 2010 as a master electrician from Freestate Electric. After his retirement you could find him on the golf course, going to Nationals baseball games, at the beach, or on adventurous bike rides with Mich and friends. He was a member of the National Capital Trackers Club where he enjoyed his time with other train enthusiasts and Mich putting on train shows for the surrounding communities in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. He enjoyed it most when his kids and grandkids would come check out their layouts and he would often allow the grandkids to run trains with him. He loved to travel. If he and Mich weren’t spending time at the beach house in Assateague they were traveling the world. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He loved with his whole heart and his legacy will live on through his wife, his children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his mother Jeanne Hemmer, wife, Michiko and five children, Denise (Patrick), Charlie (Martina), Joey (Carrie), Michael (Ellen), and Michelle and eleven grandchildren; Lexi, Nathan, Keira, Abby, Oliver, Lily, Ryan, Lucas, Lylah, Michael Paul, and Sophia. Don is the oldest of ten. He is survived by his nine siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Don's Life Celebration on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745.
