Donald Joy - Obituary

onald Byron Joy, 66, a long time resident of Annapolis , passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and man's best friend during his final hours. Born on August 23, 1945 to Byron Walter Joy and Geraldine Tate Joy in Rumford, Maine, Mr. Joy graduated from Mexico High School in Mexico, Maine and went on to earn B.A. in Mathematics from Boston University in 1967. He spent a career in management at National Security Agency, retiring in 2002, and then continuing as a government contractor until December, 2010. Mr. Joy enjoyed spending time with family, puttering on cars, working around the yard and vacationing in Maine. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Pilar Teresa Joy, twin brother, Douglas Kenneth Joy of Naples, Florida, daughters, Kristen Joy of Lutherville-Timonium and Heidi Conaway of Marriottsville, and son, Todd Joy of Arnold. Mr. Joy was also a loving stepfather to Michael Martin, Cheryl Mole and Kenneth Martin and adoring grandfather to Austin and Carson Conaway, Kara, Kaelyn, Kurtis, and Colin Mole and Samantha and Sydney Martin. Friends are invited to Donald’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, February 2 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm where funeral service will be held on Friday, February 3 at 11am.
