Donald Tyson - Obituary

D

onald G. Tyson of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, passed away on Friday July 6, 2012. Don was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 26, 1924. After attending school there, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with the 2nd Marine Division in the first wave in Tarawa, Saipan, and the Battle of Tinian. While on board to go to Okinawa, Don was selected for the V-12 program at Dartmouth College. When the program was cancelled, he continued his education in Atlanta, GA and graduated from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Georgia. Don's career was with McNeil Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. He was a 20-year member of the Annapolis Yacht Club, an avid sailor, bridge player, tennis player, and golfer. He served on the Board of Directors in Heritage Harbour and organized the Heritage Harbour model boat club. Don is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pat; his four children, Donald Jr., Susan, James, and Jeffrey from his first wife, Ruth, and six grandchildren. Don's Life Celebration gathering will be held on Friday, July 13, from 4 to 6pm, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C.
