D

onald Thomas Wingate, Sr., “Don”, 75, a 55-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Madison, MD, died from pancreatic cancer on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. Don was born on January 23, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Donald Wingate and Doris Grimes Brady. He attended Annapolis Junior High and served his country in the US Army. He retired in 1996, after 28 years of service, from the US Naval Academy where he worked in the Mess Hall as a civilian employee. He later retired from Lanes Bus Service after 38 years in 2014, as a school bus driver for the company. His hobbies included crabbing, fishing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother Norman Wingate. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances Wingate, one son; Tom Wingate of Pasadena, one daughter; Donna Wingate-Staton of Brooklyn Park, two brothers; William Hoyle of Seaford, Delaware and Barry Wingate of Madison, MD. Also survived by his four grandchildren; Bennett and Sydney Wingate and Makenzie Jones, all of Pasadena, MD and Stephanie Dobyns-Staton of Federalsburg, MD. Friends may call on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 4pm until a memorial service begins at 5pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment private.
