Donald K. Wood - Obituary

onald K. Wood, 91, born on May 19, 1933 in Eastport, MD, died on January 19, 2025. During his upbringing in Eastport, he received his education at Trumpy’s boatyard and on his family farm until his early twenties, when he bought his own farm in West River. After moving there, he met the love of his life, Dorothy “Dot” Wood née Smoot. They were married for 57 years, until Dot’s passing in 2014. Donald retired from the carpenters union working in Washington DC and at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. Donald and Dot loved attending horse shows and going on trail rides. They continued raising horses, goats, and chickens. Donald loved spending time with his family and friends, sitting outside at the farm, and enjoying good food, fun, and laughter. Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his stepchildren, William R. Smoot and Beverly Sears; and his siblings, George Wood, Alvin Wood, and Frances Blades. He is survived by his stepchildren, Walter (Vickie) Smoot of Stevensville, MD and Barbara Nelson of Leesburg, VA; his sisters, Catherine Phipps of Davidsonville, MD and Marie (Ed) Elmer of Augusta, WV; and his many cherished nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Donald’s life on Monday, January 27 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 28 at 11 am.
