Donna Lou Stokes - Obituary

onna Lou Stokes (née Dawson) passed away on January 23, 2025, on her 84th birthday, in Baltimore, MD. Born on January 23, 1941 to the late Dora Antoinette Dawson and Donald Steuart Dawson, Donna grew up in Mayo, MD. She was active in church and church choirs throughout her life; faith was extremely important to her. Donna loved to bake, crochet and embroider. Family and friends will remember her for years from the beautiful homemade gifts they have all received. Donna’s pride and joy was her family. Affectionately known as “Ma” to all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she spent most of her adult life caring for her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Elmer Stokes, Sr. She is survived by her four children: Dora Greenwell-Beall (John), George Stokes, Jr. (Kim), Donald Stokes (Tina), and David Stokes (Amy); her brother, Dick Dawson (Liz); eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces and nephews, and her son and daughters-in-law. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Donna's life on Wednesday, January 29 from 5 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Her funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 11 am at Mayo United Methodist Church, 1005 Old Turkey Point Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037.
