Doris L. Belcher - Obituary

oris Lee Bowen Belcher, 97, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at her home. Born on May 28, 1920 in Eastport to the late Emory Gwynn and Susan Matilda Bowen, Doris attended Annapolis High School. She retired in 1982 from the Board of Supervisors of Elections for Anne Arundel County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eastport and enjoyed reading, crocheting and being with the one's she loved-her family and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Lester J. Belcher, who died in 1990. She is survived by her children, Lester J. Belcher, Jr. of Davidsonville, MD, Janice L. Smith of Edgewater, MD and Gail F. Belcher of Clearwater, FL; her siblings, Marjorie Engberg of Salisbury, MD and Carol Ann Cantler of Annapolis, MD and Bennett D. Bowen of Venice, Florida. Doris is also survived by nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Friends are invited to celebrate Doris' life at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM where her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Annapolis, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Rd., Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
