Doris E. Miller - Obituary

oris Miller, 94, died on Friday, July 28, 2018 surrounded by family at the home of her daughter, Anne Kraft who, with her husband, Alan, lovingly cared for Doris over the past 4 years. Born in Washington, DC on September 20, 1923, to the late Hattie and Howard Weber, Doris attended the School of Nursing at Sibley Hospital. She maintained her passion for nursing throughout a career which lasted more than 40 years. Doris was also a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was active, fun loving, and had a great sense of humor and zest for life. She enjoyed golfing, boating, Scrabble, and living on the water. Doris had a strong Christian faith and was the ultimate caregiver to many. She was an active member of Edgewater Baptist Church, Heritage Baptist Church, and Riverdale Baptist Church. Doris was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Higham in 1976; her second husband, Paul Miller in 2014; and her daughter, Joan Higham Collison in 2010. She is survived by three daughters, Gail Higham Connaughton, Anne Higham Kraft, and Jeanne Higham McMahon; two stepdaughters, Donna Gross and Paula Brown; a stepson, Richard Miller; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at the home of Anne and Alan Kraft. Memorial contributions may be made in Doris' name to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.
