orothy M. Childs, 87, a resident of Crofton for thirty-eight years, died peacefully on Monday, August 24 in Annapolis, MD. Born in Takoma Park, MD on June 15, 1933 to the late Edward and Loretta Stelfox, Dorothy worked for C & P Telephone Company from the age of 18 until she retired at age 55. During her 37 year career with C & P, she moved up from an entry level position as a telephone operator to third level management which included opening and naming the Skyview office in Greenbelt, MD. Dorothy belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist Church and for the last several years has been involved in Bible studies which she looked forward to every week. Dorothy’s grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She also enjoyed all the children in the family and in her retirement years cared for some of them, which brought her so much joy. Dorothy was a loving, caring, inspiring mom, grammy, Auntie Dee and friend. She was giving to all. She will be greatly missed and her light will shine forever in our hearts. She is resting peacefully in the hands of God and looks forward to seeing us all again in heaven. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Pamela and Scott Griffiths of Davidsonville, MD; her grandchildren, Dawn and Stuart Dowden of Davidsonville, MD, Jimmy and Melissa Hendrix of Stevensville, MD, Shaun Hendrix and Carrieanne Place of Denton, MD; seven great-grandchildren, Heather Walsh, Cherie and Stuie Dowden, Drew, Tyler, Skye and Troy Hendrix and one great-great grandchild, Virginia May Armstrong. Friends are invited to celebrate Dorothy’s life on Monday from 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 1 at 10 am.
