n Friday, February 28, 2014; the beloved wife of the late David R. Griffin and Joseph W. Taylor; mother of Dorothy Jo Taylor Ruby and Louis T. Dennis, Sr.; sister of the late Edith E. Gousha, E. Ruth Barbour, Arlene Jahrig, Thomas Barbour and Bocie T. Barbour, Jr.; grandmother of Dorothy Jean Dennis, Louis Dennis, Jr., Christine DiMeglio, Robert L. Dennis, Denise M. King, William Dennis, Kendra Dennis, Laura Walker and the late Daniel Edward Dennis; great-grandmother of Daniel Dennis, Kathy Bonney, Bryan DiMeglio, Mark Raphael, Leif Walker, Nicholas Dennis, Kayla Dennis, Christopher Harris, Dylan King, Allysa King and Robert Walker, Jr.; great-great grandmother of Jasper Raphael and Addison DiMeglio. She is also survived by other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Dorothy's Life Celebration on Tuesday, March 4 from 5 to 8pm at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 5 at 11am at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Entombment Cedar Hill Cemetery. Dottie was born in Johnston County, North Carolina on July 18, 1924, and moved to Washington, DC in the 1930’s. She worked for Ransdale Press, was a campaign manager in the 1970’s for Congressmen/women, Senators; and President Nixon, was a Director of the Aquatics Seniors Program for the Prince George’s County Government. She was a Girl Scout Leader, PTA President, held the station of “Ruth” for the Eastern Star Unity Chapter #112, and at age 51, bought her second motorcycle! She was an avid athlete, loved basketball and baseball, and stood up for what she believed in, and loved the “Footprints” and “Children Learn What They Live” poems. She was twice widowed (Joseph W. Taylor and David R. Griffin) and treasured her two children. On Friday, February 28, 2014, of N. Bethesda, Maryland, mother of Louis T. Dennis, Sr. and Dorothy Jo (“Jo Jo”) Ruby, grandmother of eight, great grandmother of four, and great-great of two, went Home to Heaven.
