orothy “Dottie” Hussmann, “Gram” or “The Dot”, age 84, an 18-year resident of Heritage Harbor in Annapolis and previously of Bowie and Mitchellville, died May 11, 2021 of heart failure at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was born in Chicago on July 22, 1936 and graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville. While her husband John was still in college, Dottie worked as a secretary at Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. She was a homemaker when her children were young, and then worked as a school bus driver for Prince George’s County Public Schools during her children’s middle and high school years. Later she worked as the Foster Care Coordinator at Bethany Christian Services where she loved serving foster parents and adoptive families. Dottie was a member of Mount Oak Church in Mitchellville for many years where she was active in the Women’s Ministry and coordinated the annual turkey dinner for years. After moving to Heritage Harbor in 2004, she became a member of Chesapeake Christian Fellowship. There, she participated in women’s Bible studies and visiting shut-ins. She was also a volunteer at Anne Arundel Medical Center for several years and at the Pregnancy Clinic in Bowie. In her younger years, Dottie and her husband John were avid tennis players and also enjoyed boating with friends. Dottie loved to cook and entertain and was known for her hospitality and especially her baking. At Heritage Harbor, Dottie played Bridge regularly and enjoyed having lunch and going out to dinner with her many friends. She also loved spending time with her children and their families. Dottie was well-known as a lover of Jesus, her family and her dogs, and for her gift of hospitality, for her tender heart toward those who were struggling, particularly with her foster and adoptive parents, and as a great and loyal friend who would do anything for you. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Tim) Carson of Estero, FL, Carla (Alan) Gore of Millersville and Cheryl (Charles) Routzahn of Union Bridge, MD; her sister, Eileen Kleinheinz of Chesapeake Beach, MD; and nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren whom she dearly loved.
