orothy Mae Johnson, “Dottie”, 83, a 25- year resident of Heritage Harbour and Ginger Cove in Annapolis, died Friday, October 5, at the Anne Arundel Medical Center following complications from surgery to mend a hip broken in a fall in her apartment.
Born on February 18, 1929 in Cook County, Chicago, IL to the late Herman and Florence Lacy, she graduated in 1950 from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. While raising her family Dottie worked as an educator in the State of Illinois. She later worked as an office manager for Faber Renoff, the company that she and her husband owned from 1984 to 1991.
Dottie was an artist and especially enjoyed displaying her oil paintings and water colors at local Annapolis art shows. She also enjoyed traveling the globe with her husband to Europe, North Africa, Central and South America, as well as throughout the United States to visit her family and friends.
Dottie was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Elliott Arvid Johnson, who died in December of 2002, her brother, Edgar H. Lacy and her sister, Florence E. Pickering.
She is survived by her three children, Doria Rindos of Arnold, MD, Stephen E. Johnson of Crystal Lake, IL and Randall S. Johnson of Aliso Viejo, CA;
seven grandchildren, Timothy and James Johnson, Michael and Jessica Rindos, Jennifer Johnson Caraos, Jaclyn Rindos Cockcroft and Stephanie Johnson Vidak and five great-grandchildren.
A private burial will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association, 415 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 or to the Arthritis Foundation, 9891 Broken Land Parkway, Suite 101, Columbia, MD 21046.
