orothy “Dot†“Maw Maw†Laura McKenzie, 93, a resident of Annapolis, MD for over 10 years and previously of Laurel, MD died at Crofton Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center in Crofton, MD on June 27, 2008 of natural causes after a brief illness.
Born January 20, 1915 in West Virginia, she was a graduate of Monongah High School in Monongah, West Virginia where she was the class valedictorian. She was a private duty nurse in the Washington, D.C. area. After retiring from nursing, she opened her own antiques business. Her hobbies included dolls, jewelry, antiquing, glassware, reading; she loved pets and loved kids.
She was the beloved wife of Carlton McKenzie, who died in September of 1995 & Brown Allen Coleman, who died in 1963; mother of Susan Smith of Edgewater, MD. She is survived by 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
Friends are invited to Dorothy's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 from 10am until time of service at 11am. Interment Washington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a children's charity of your choice.
