D

orothy, also known as “Dotty,” 78, of Temple Hills, MD passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a long illness. She peacefully transitioned to Heaven on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017 at 11:30 am (INOVA Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria, Virginia) with her beloved son by her side. She was born August 23, 1939, Washington, D.C., the daughter of Nora (Brown) and Cecil E. Meeks. Surviving her is her stepmother, Mrs. Bertha Meeks. Her husbands, William B. Winborne and Harry (Sonny) Charles Loftus, Jr. as well as her brothers, Louis E. and Raymond E. Meeks predecease her. Ruth and Anna Meeks, the wives, respectively, of her brothers, survive her. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Mary Frances (Loftus) Myers of West Virginia. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Melinda Traino, and a stepson, Harry Charles Loftus, III as well as step grandchildren. She leaves behind a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Special tribute is extended to her dear friend, Cindy Ward, amazing caregiver, and an angel in disguise. Surviving her are her son, John L. Winborne and his wife, Susan (Blocker) Winborne. She leaves two adorable and accomplished grandsons, Jordan and Jason Winborne. Dotty worked for the Maritime Administration, Ship Operations, for over 40 years. She was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Clinton, Maryland. She was a smart, bright and compassionate woman who loved her family and friends. She was an avid angel collector and a true animal lover. She especially loved deer, Pomeranians and her pet dogs. Her favorite pastime was swimming at the pool with her friends. Some simple pleasures were homemade chocolate chip cookies, birthday cake, brownies, and ice cream. She loved watching classic TV shows and movies, especially any movie with Clark Gable in it. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley but mostly enjoyed religious music. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She loved all of the beautiful decorations and lights and preparing her yearly Christmas letter with that years pictures of family and friends and some very funny jokes. Visitation will be held at Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, Maryland 20745 on Wednesday, November 29th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and on Thursday, November 30th from 9:30 a.m until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 8908 Old Branch Avenue, Clinton, Maryland 20735. Burial will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland 20722. The family wishes to thank all of Dotty’s friends who loved and supported her in various ways during her illness.
