Douglas C. Wright - Obituary

D

ouglas Carl Wright, a graphic artist from Crofton, MD, died suddenly on July 29. He was 57. Douglas grew up in Severna Park, MD, and graduated from Severna Park High School in 1983. He attended Anne Arundel Community College and Boston University. Early in his career, Douglas worked as the Art Director at The Washington Blade and its sister companies in Washington, D.C., before becoming self-employed. He worked in website design and created graphic art for fashion, electronics accessories, home decor, and more through his “DougPop” website. Douglas was an avid and knowledgeable collector, especially of Jim Shore collectibles. He took pride in the creation and administration of his Jim Shore Collectors Facebook group. He directly communicated with many of the almost 15,000 members, sharing his knowledge, advising collectors, and befriending many. He was known for reaching out to people who needed help, sometimes chatting online at length in the late hours. He also enjoyed photography, bird-watching, nature walks, movies, and creating and sharing funny memes and posts with his nephews, nieces, and friends. He was a super fan of Cliff Richard and Lynda Carter. Douglas is survived by his mother, Lorraine Wright; two brothers, Harry F. Wright III (Linda Imhof) and Gregory Wright (Deborah Heck); one sister, Lonni Pitis (Philip); three nephews, Mark, Scott, and Tyler; three nieces, Samantha, Melanie, and Alexandria; one grand-niece, Reighlyn; two grand-nephews, Lucas and Forrest; and his beloved beagle, Howie. Friends are invited to celebrate Douglas’ life on Wednesday, August 17 from 2pm-6pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will be private.
