arl W. Schellman, 89, passed away at his home on September 28, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Townshend Schellman and two daughters, Debrah Levi of Edgewater, MD and Linda Lacy of Florence, SC. Earl was born on September 2, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Elinora and William Schellman. He was raised by his Uncle and his wife Frank and Ruth Schellman along with their four children due to the death of his own mother 16 days after his birth and his father when Earl was only 4 years old. In addition to his parents Earl was predeceased by his brother Raymond L. Schellman. Earl was a graduate of David B. Oliver High School in Pittsburg, PA, and later in life attended the University of Maryland. During his secondary and high school years Earl worked at a local drug store at the soda counter. After graduation he was employed by Dravo Ship Building Co. as a mail clerk. He then went on to join G.C. Murphy Co. as a manager trainee and was ultimately transferred to an Annapolis, MD store. Earl was drafted and deployed to Korea and served in the Infantry and in the Military Police. He would be medically retired from the Army after suffering a leg wound during his time on the front lines in Korea, for which he received a Purple Heart. Earl started working for the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Anne Arundel County as a Chattel Mortgage Clerk and advancing through several positions and finally as the Administrative Assistant to the Clerk of Court for Anne Arundel County from which he retired after 37 years in 1987. He was a member of Annapolis Lodge #622 of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks which he joined in 1960, serving as Lecturing and Leading Knight, then elected as Exalted Ruler in 1969 to 1970. Earl also held positions in the North Central District, and was state President in 1985to 1986. Since 1988 Earl has served as the Elected Lodge Secretary Friends are invited to celebrate Earl's life on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 3 -5 and 7 to 9 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater where a funeral service will be held on Friday, October 5 at 12:30 pm.
