Edgar Franklin “Buddy” Vermillion, Jr., 90, a 67-year resident of Harwood and previously of Cape St. Claire, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 5, 2020 surrounded by his children. Buddy was born on March 13, 1930 in Baltimore, MD to the late Edgar F. Sr. and Gladys Vermillion. Buddy served proudly in the US Air Force. He worked on the Enola Gay, which dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, when it was being decommissioned and prepared to go to a museum. Buddy worked as an installer for C&P Telephone and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Edgewater and Living Word Bible Church in West River, MD. Buddy enjoyed duckpin bowling, roller skating and playing volleyball. He also enjoyed camping and singing in the church choir. In addition to his parents, Buddy is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Nannie “Nan” Vermillion and his sister Ruth Henretty and his grandson, Timothy Lee Pearson. He is survived by his children, Joseph Vermillion and Theresa Johnson, both of Harwood, his two grandchildren; Tommy Pearson and his wife Lucy Parks, and their children Maggie and Virginia and Travis Pearson and his wife Lindsay and their children, Devin Keller, Izzy, Cheyanne, Shelby and Delilah, He is also survived by two nephews and a niece. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Buddy’s life on Thursday, December 10 from 2 to 4pm and again from 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037 where a funeral service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 11am. Entombment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Word Bible Church, 5300 Chalk Point Rd, West River, MD 20778.
