dith Vermilya Baldwin, lovingly known as Grannie or “Gran ‘E’” by her grandchildren, passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2026, at the age of 73. Born April 3, 1952, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, Edith always considered Roanoke, Virginia, her home before later moving to Edgewater, Maryland. Her family misses her dearly, as do her many friends and extended family, from Virginia to Maryland and throughout the countless communities she touched. Edith was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Timothy A. Baldwin, and her sister, Mary-Jane Vermilya Archer. She is survived by her three sons: Joseph A. Jamison of Edgewater, Maryland; Andrew V. Jamison and his wife Dori-Kate Jamison of Monroe, Michigan; and John C. Jamison II and his partner Ashley McHale of Guilford, Vermont. She is also survived by Tim’s mother and stepfather, Louanne and Jerry Guzi, and all of Tim’s extended family. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Jack Jamison, Violet Jamison, Katie Jamison, and Anson Jamison; her brother, Walter Vermilya; and her nephews, Walter Vermilya Jr. and John Daniel Vermilya. Edith had a way of lighting up a room and could make friends wherever she went. A true social butterfly, she seemed to know people wherever she went and was admired for her generosity, warmth, and occasional stubborn streak. She cherished her family, her neighbors who became like family, her animals, and her beloved “granddogs.” She loved to sing in the choir and ring handbells, and while she slowed down in later years, her music and joy continued to resonate with those around her. Edith also loved traveling to the Outer Banks, spending time with people she cared about, and cheering on Virginia Tech. She had a gift for creating meaningful connections with everyone she met. Friends and family will remember her warm smile, her outgoing spirit, and the deep love she had for those around her. She never stopped worrying about her sons, her dogs, and even her “granddog” in Vermont—once concerned about a husky being outside on a 30-degree winter day. Her family finds comfort in imagining her reunited with Tim—perhaps sitting together on a peaceful beach once again. Edith will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held in Roanoke, Virginia, on June 28 at 5 Points Music Sanctuary, with exact time details to be announced.
