Edith Louise Roane - Obituary

E

dith Louise Roane, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. She was born in Annapolis on November 18, 1930, to the late John Elmer and Carita Stokes. She was married to Nelson Roane for 48 years, who predeceased her in 2000. They had five children, George David (deceased 2013), Ruth (Mike) Myer, Mary Carita “Ketta” (Herb) Hannon, Patty (John) Hannon, and Carol (Mike) Tumminello; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Rob, Jake, April, Michael, Andrew, Mark, Alan, and Paula; and eleven great-grandchildren. Edith was always active in her church, caring for all the babies in the nursery. She not only raised her children and grandchildren; she had a hand in rearing many other children in the Annapolis area through her babysitting. She was known to many as Momma Roane, Aunt Wease, Grandma, Nanny, or the latest title, Maw Maw. She will always be remembered for her excellent cooking, especially the fried chicken! Edith did beautiful embroidery, stitching up through her recent illness. She gave away many a pillow case, dish towel, apron, baby quilt – anything she could stitch. Edith was predeceased by her husband, son, parents, five sisters, and one brother. Surviving are her daughters and their families, one sister, one brother, one sister-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to Edith’s life celebration on Tuesday, November 28, from 1-3 and 5-7 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 29 at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Edith’s name may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122, or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
