dmund A. Miarecki, 79, a 45-year resident of Edgewater, MD died suddenly on January 18, 2026 due to heart-related causes. Mr. Miarecki was born on April 1, 1946 in Springfield, MA, Edmund waas the only son of Edmund and Helen (Blaszko) Miarecki who were longtime residents of Enfield, CT. Mr. Miarecki attended Enfield public schools and graduate from Enfield High School in 1964. He attended Syracuse University from 1964 through 1968 before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1968. He then attended the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where he received a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1972. He married Leona Diane Dillow on November 11, 1978. For a short period, they resided in Alexandria, VA. In 1980, they moved to Edgewater, MD where they lived until his death. They also maintained a winter residence in Vero Beach, FL for many years. They had no children. Mr. Miarecki was admitted to the Bar of the District of Columbia in January 1973, and began working as an attorney with the Department of Defense. He became a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States District Court in the District of Columbia. He subsequently rose to the position of Counsel for Special Programs at one of the Defense Department’s major field activities. He worked on contracts and litigation involving some of the Department’s most sensitive contract and weapons systems. He retired after 27 years with the Department. Mr. Miarecki was an avid sailor and owned several sailboats, the last being a 40-foot sloop named Kailani. He sailed for over 30 years on the Chesapeake Bay with some offshore trips to Newport, Florida, and Bermuda. He enjoyed all aspects of the water and was a dedicated swimmer as well as a boater. He was a member of the Hunter Sailing Association and Caliber Sailing Association for many years, and was also a member and supporter of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. He was also an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the St. Mary’s Right to Life Committee, and the Knights of Columbus Council 1384. Mr. Miarecki is survived by his loving wife, Diane; sister-in-law, Darlene (Charles) Raines; nephews, Chuck (Marzella) Raines, Bruce (Jennifer) Dillow, Josh (Heather) Dillow, Blair (Mike) Jones, Brooke Dillow, and Travis Dillow; and many cousins, including Walter Miarecki, Steven and John Miarecki, Edwina Wilcock, and Mary Helming. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mr. Miarecki’s life on Tuesday, January 27 from 4 to 7 pm at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD on Wednesday, January 28 at 10:30 am. Interment will be at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Enfield, CT at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105).
