dward Anthony Mielkus Edward Anthony Mielkus, of Edgewater, MD, and previously of Castle Rock, Colorado died on April 24, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was 77. Born August 6, 1931 in Illinois, he attended the University of Colorado, where he received his Bachelors degree. He worked as an aerospace test engineer for Martin Marietta, now Lockheed Martin, in Colorado, where he retired after 36 years of service. He worked on the development and testing of the Titan Missile as well as the Viking Mars Lander, and the Voyager space probe. Edward also served in the United States Air Force, as a teacher and trainer at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver Colorado. He loved to hunt and collect big game species in Africa and North America, and was a member of the Chesapeake Chapter of Safari Club International. Edward loved to explore and was a world traveler, an avid scrap booker and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his fiancé Georgia DiPietro of Edgewater, MD, his children, Patrick Mielkus of Thornton, Colorado, Crystal Garner of Morrison, Colorado and the late Tony Mielkus who died in 1976, and his brother Raymond Mielkus of Darien, Illinois. Also survived by four grandchildren. Friends are invited to Edward's Life Celebration on Tuesday April 28, 2009 from 1-3 & 6-8pm at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 29, 2009 at 10am. Interment St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson, Maryland.
