Edwin L. Herring - Obituary

aptain Edwin Lyle Herring (USN), 93, a longtime resident of Annapolis, MD, passed away on June 15, 2024, with his family by his side. Born in Ocean City, NJ, Edwin grew up in Philadelphia, PA and graduated from Penn State University before serving in the U.S. Navy for 31 years. While in the Navy, he completed post-graduate education in Naval Intelligence and Arabic Language. Among his various assignments, he served as Naval Attache in Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia. He was also the Commanding Officer of the USS Power (DD839) during combat operations in the Gulf of Tonkin. Edwin is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 72 years, Ann (nee Highland) Herring; his children, Allen Herring, Janet (Chip) Hudgins, William Herring, and Scott (Diane) Herring; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Justin Herring, Melanie (Jamie Brown) Hudgins, Kaitlin (Zach) Kinnaird; his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Herring, Harper Kinnaird and Gemma Brown; his brother, Ronald Herring; and a niece, Jill Herring. Friends are invited to celebrate Edwin’s life on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD starting at 10 am.
