laine Conroy Moore, 60, of Ocean View, Del., died of complications from breast cancer Dec. 8 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. Ms. Moore was born Jan. 22, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Joseph Q. Conroy and Helen Conroy of Annapolis, and was raised in Adelphi. She graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School in 1965. After graduation, she lived in various countries around the world, including service as a Red Cross volunteer in Vietnam, and with the federal government in Japan. She worked at the American Embassy in Paris for 10 years, where she attended the Sorbonne. In 1978 she married Navy Capt. Paul Moore, and they lived in Stuttgart, Germany, London, and Oslo, Norway before returning to the United States in 1990. Capt. Moore died in 1991. Ms. Moore was an agent for Coldwell Banker Residential Realty in Rehoboth Beach, Del. She was a very active member of Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, Inc. in Newark, Del., Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute in Lewes, Del., and Bethany Beach Town Cats. In October, Ms. Moore was the recipient of the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteerism in the State of Delaware, and was known the "Bird Lady of Bethany." Ms. Moore was able to speak several languages. A gemologist, she pursued training in diamond cutting, reweaving of antique oriental rugs, and the restoration of historic, valuable paintings. She had a passion for helping animals, owning a dog and six cats, and enjoyed anything having to do with nature. She also enjoyed traveling, collecting fine art, jewelry, books, and listening to classical music. Survivors include two sisters, Doris Allen of Davidsonville and Marilyn Drea of Annapolis; and her companion of ten years, Gary Hutchison. Services are private. Ms. Moore's ashes will be scattered in the springtime, accompanied by fellowship and a celebration of her life at a time and place to be determined. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater, MD. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the E. Conroy Moore Foundation, P.O. Box 789, Bethany Beach, DE 19930, in support of individuals and organizations dedicated to the welfare of animals.
