lizabeth (Betsy) Maclin Butler died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday April 26, 2017. She was 79 years old.
Betsy Maclin was born on December 16, 1937 and grew up in Baldwin, Long Island – she enjoyed playing sports and the piano. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1955 and Syracuse University in 1959 with a degree in nursing. Betsy met Jim Butler one summer during college and they married on February 6, 1960. She worked as a public health nurse for five years until she stopped to raise her family. They lived for many years in Syracuse and Henderson Harbor, New York. In later years they lived in Sedona, Arizona and Odenton, Maryland.
Betsy loved sports and exercise, especially aerobics and tennis. She was an avid reader and gardener and was a member of the Garden Club and Junior League. She threw a great cocktail party and was a fiercely loyal friend, wife, mother, daughter and sister.
Betsy is survived by her husband Jim, who currently lives in Annapolis, Maryland, as well as son Jim Butler, daughter-in-law Tricia, grandchildren Manny, Nate and Talia, daughter Janet, son-in-law Robert Berry, granddaughters Kate and Callie, as well as her brothers Tom and Russ Maclin and their families.
The memorial will be held on Tuesday, May 9 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Crownsville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Audubon Society and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Memories can be sent to jbutlerberry@gmail.com.
