lizabeth Anne “Betty” Griesbauer Fahey, loving and selfless mother, wife and friend, died on August 4, 2022 at the age of 80. Betty was born on September 11, 1941 in Takoma Park, MD and was raised primarily in Bethesda, MD. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1959 and went on to attend St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN, as a sister in the Holy Cross Order. She left the order in 1966 and returned to Maryland where she earned her master’s degree in library science at the University of Maryland in 1968. In 1967 she married Richard “Dick” Fahey and they settled in Rockville, MD where they raised two sons, Kevin and Sean. They later moved to Annapolis, MD after their sons had left for college. Betty loved helping people and was passionate about her work as a children’s librarian. She worked in Montgomery County libraries and later at the library at St. Andrew’s Elementary School in Annapolis where she enjoyed leading story times and sharing book recommendations with young readers. In her free time, Betty loved to read in the sun, watch Notre Dame football, travel with her husband and spend time with her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband, Richard Fahey; her sons, Kevin and Sean Fahey; her grandchildren, Brennan, Ana, Barrett and Ellie and her brother, Gary Griesbauer. A remembrance celebration will be held on Sunday, September 11 at 1:00 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Maryland Book Bank.
