lizabeth Kontir Lindley “Bettyâ€, 75, a 23-year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, died at her home on July 4, 2010 from ALS. Born November 18, 1934 in Hecla, PA to the late Andrew and Anna Nemeth Kontir, Betty graduated from Hurst High School where she played basketball and was named Outstanding Girl Athlete in 1952. She worked as a fingerprint clerk for the FBI and a library technician for the Naval Research Lab. A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis, she enjoyed golf and square dancing.
Betty was predeceased by her sister, Mary Ann Witek. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John R. Lindley; one son, Jeffrey Lindley of Vienna, VA; three daughters: Amy Hart of Centerville, OH, Lisa Cizler of Charleston, SC and Denise Lindley of Cockeysville, MD; three brothers: Andrew Kontir of Greensburg, PA, James Kontir of Mt. Pleasant, PA and Daniel Kontir of Hecla, PA. She was the grandmother of Chelsea, Evan, Adam, Nathan, Blake, Carter and Hannah.
Friends are invited to Betty's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037 on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Friday, July 9, at 9:00 a.m. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or ALS Association, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.
