AGE 93) 1916-2009 Passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, October 30, 2009. He was born in Kallegiana, Crete, Greece, the son of Michael and Elizabeth Tsourounis. Along with his mother and sister, Irene, he immigrated to America in 1920 though Ellis Island, to join his father who had established a business in Hopewell, VA. After graduating from Hopewell High, he attended VPI and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Engineering (Class of 1939). During WWII, he worked at Langley Field in Hampton, VA, designing sections of the B25 and B29 Airplane. In 1944, he married Ann Chrysson of Winston Salem, North Carolina. They were devoted to each other for 61 years, until her death in 2005. During his lifetime, he established himself as businessman in Prince Georges County, operating several restaurants over the years. In the 1970''s he joined the "Pancretan Association" which supported many caused for his beloved Island of Crete. He became its president and spent many years working on behalf of the organization. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Sava of McLean, VA, Michael Tsourounis and wife Athy of Owings, MD; five grandchildren, Anna Sava Namnoum and husband Kenneth of Connecticut, George Sava and wife Linda of New York, Emanuel Tsourounis 11 of New York, Nicholas and wife Marilyn Tsourounis of Maryland and Anthony Tsourounis of Maryland; five great-grandchildren, Elise and Brian Namnoum and Olivia, Anaclara and Sam Sava; sisters, Stella Tsourounis and Alan Jones, and George Tsourounis; nieces and nephews which include, Mr. Michael Halkos and family (MD), Dr. Alex Halkos and family (GA), Leon Halkos (GA), Demetri Mazacoufa (GA), George Liviakis and family (CA), Boyle and family (TX) and many Koumbari and friends from the country and Greece. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 3 at 12 noon at St. Katherines Greek Orthodox Church in Falls Church. Interment will be November 4 at 12:30 p.m. in Hopewell, VA. Contributions may be made to St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, MD, or to St. Judes Hospital. Arrangements by the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater, MD.
