milia Hruzd, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015 . Born in Buczkow, Poland, on June 24, 1922, she survived WWII as a German POW. She and her late husband, Antoni, travelled with their 18-month old daughter to Annapolis in 1948 to work on their sponsor’s farm on Crystal Springs Road in Annapolis. She became a U.S. citizen in 1953. They bought a farm in Millersville in 1953, where they lived for 51 years and raised 3 daughters. In 2004, they moved to the Gingerville development in Edgewater.
She was a successful farmer and talented gardener. Emilia was an avid reader and loved embroidery, flower gardening, board games and was an accomplished seamstress.
She is survived by her three daughters, Irene Hruzd of Edgewater, MD, Sophie Hruzd of Annapolis, MD and Teresa Hruzd of Edgewater, MD; three grandchildren, Angelique Youells of Beaverton, OR and Zach and Emily Thomas of Edgewater, MD; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jaimee Downing of Beaverton, OR.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Emilia's life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, September 15 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where her funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 16.
