mmanuel J. Skarvelis, "Manny", a resident of Severna Park for 48 years died on Tuesday, August 18 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. Born on April 2, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late John and Angelina Skarvelis, Manny attended Duquesne University and several other institutes of higher learning before earning his Master's Degree. He had a 40 year career as a teacher in the Anne Arundel County school system, primarily at Severn River Junior High School. Additionally, Manny worked part time at USAirways which allowed he and his family to travel the world. A member of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church for 40 years, Manny was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan and loved movies, singing, football and travelling with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Regina Davis and Christina Simpson.
Manny is survived by his wife, Anna Skarvelis, whom he married on August 15, 1974; his sons, John G. (Christine) Skarvelis of Glenwood, MD and Gregory A. Skarvelis of Pasadena, MD; his brother James D. Skarvelis of Merrick, NY and his grandchildren, Manny and Evie Skarvelis. Friends are invited to celebrate Manny's life from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 21 at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401.
Interment will follow at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.
