Erma Brownlee - Obituary

rma Irene Hooker Brownlee Born in Lee County, Sanford, NC, to the late Thompson and Eliza Hooker on October 27, 1918. She moved from life to glory on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Civista Medical Center, La Plata, Maryland. She was preceded in death by one brother Caudell Hooker; grandsons James, Andre, Thomas Scott; and, granddaughters Debra and Sadie. Erma retired in 1984 as a Home Health Aide, after helping those who could not care for themselves. She joined the Ark of Safety Church, Upper Marlboro, Md. and due to her illness was unable to attend regularly, however, she was faithful at watching church television and reading her bible. Erma was most thankful to the Lord for granting her a good life and the beautiful years she spent with her family. Erma was affectionately known to all as “Ma Erma”. She loved to cook soul food dishes and bake coconut, pumpkin and carrot cakes. During the holidays her home was always filled with the fragrance of love. Ma Erma enjoyed doing crafts and making beautiful works of art that she enjoyed giving to her family and friends. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Tommie Elizabeth McIver, Sandra Kay Dent; three son in laws, Thomas “Bubba” McIver, Howard Dent and Charles Frink (Emmajean); grandchildren, Tonya Cowan, Zariya “Tweety” Cowan-Omar, Norma Barr, Daryl McIver (Hollie) and Carol McIver; a devoted great- granddaughter, Tyquesha King, nineteen great-grandchildren and nineteen great- great grand children. An extended family: Michael, Mark, Matthew and Daniel Eversberg, Michelle Eversberg Cuttler and Denise Eversberg Rau, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends. We all will deeply miss her. On Thursday, October 8, 2009, the beloved mother of Tommie McIver and Sandra Dent. Family and friends are invited to Erma's Life Celebration on Tuesday, October 13 from 11:00AM until service time at 12noon at GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd. Oxon Hill, MD. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
