Ernie Crapster - Obituary

n Saturday, February 18, 2012, Ernest “Ernie” Ridgely Crapster, III, 67, a 34 year resident of Riva, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a 12 year illness. Born January 3, 1945 in Baltimore to the late E. Ridgely Crapster, Jr. and the late Mary D. Crapster-Hammerer, Ernie graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1964 then took several classes at Anne Arundel Community College. He became a Gravure web-pressman and was employed by Quebecor, Inc. (formerly Alco Gravure) in Glen Burnie from 1966-1999. Upon seven years of apprenticeship, Ernie acquired Journeyman status and received many awards during his tenure. Ernie attended Annapolis Evangelical Presbyterian Church for over 30 years and in recent years became a member. He enjoyed boating, was an avid gardener, had a keen interest in politics and was a student of the American and world political scene. He supported the NRA and in his later years he enjoyed reading, opera, watching the Discovery Channel and studying scriptures with his wife Fern. Ernie also enjoyed his cat, Joshua, by his side. In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his two brothers, Eric Reed Crapster and John K. Crapster. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Fern H. Crapster; a nephew, Eric R. Crapster, P.A. and his family; two aunts, Patricia French and Eleanor Farace; his mother-in-law Elfie H. Hardin of Annapolis and numerous cousins. Friends are invited to Ernie’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, on Wednesday, February 22 from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 23 at 4pm at the Annapolis Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 710 Ridgely Ave, Annapolis. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
