thel Rawlings Poirier, 95, a resident of Edgewater for 50 years, died July 31 at her home of complications of myelodysplastic syndrome after a seven month illness.
Mrs. Poirier worked in the ticket booth at the old Republic theater on Main Street in the 1930s, and then as a clerk for many years at the former Read's Drugstore, also on Main Street. She retired from South River Pharmacy after 25 years of employment.
Born May 16, 1912, in Eastport, she was a volunteer at the Clothes Box, the resale boutique at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Her family said her favorite activity was yelling "bingo!" She also loved the company of her grandchildren.
On Aug. 20, 1943, she married Francis W. Poirier who died in 1999.
Surviving are one daughter, Veronica Poirier of Edgewater; one brother, George Rawlings of Norwalk, Calif.; and three grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Sarah E. Hubbard Rawlings.
A celebration of her life will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where the funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
