ugene William Junta “Geneâ€, 78, a 19-year resident of the Heritage Harbour Community of Annapolis and formerly of Harwood, MD, died on Oct. 13 at home of complications from diabetes. Mr. Junta was born January 6, 1930 in Washington, DC. During his youth, he served as an altar boy at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Capitol Heights, MD. In 1947, he graduated from Maryland Park High School in Seat Pleasant, MD, and later from the Benjamin Franklin School of Accounting in Washington, DC. He also attended the University of Maryland. As a young man, he played right field position in minor league baseball for the St. Louis Browns. He worked for the Universal Carloading and Distributing Co. of Baltimore, MD. He was founder and owner of G.F.M. Freight Forwarding Co. He was a Korean War veteran with service in the U.S. Navy. He was past president of the Lothian Ruritan Club and a former usher at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River, MD. He was an avid New York Yankees fan whose interests also included gardening, cooking and, most of all, spending time with his family. Predeceased by his daughter, Christine Ann Junta who died in 1972, he is survived by his loving wife, Mary Junta; his children, Stephen Giunta of Andover, KS., Colleen Junta of Odenton, MD and Jean Junta of Bowie, MD; two brothers, Frank Junta of Boonsboro, MD and John Junta of Stevensville, MD; a sister, JoAnn Ross of Annapolis, MD; four grandchildren, Marie, Natalie, Stephen, Jr. and Nicole Giunta; and many beloved extended family, relatives and close friends. Friends are invited to Gene's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 17, at 11:00AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davidsonville, MD. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
