Eugene Joe Lewis - Obituary

ugene Joseph Lewis was born in Kitrell, North Carolina. He moved to Washington, DC with his mother Reva Lewis, brother James Lewis and sister Jaqueline Lewis when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Paul Dunbar High School and was immediately drafted into the United States Army where he served as a Military Police Officer. After being discharged from the Army he became a mail room clerk with the United States State Department where he worked for many years. He later became a chauffeur for the State Department’s Diplomatic Corps to include being the personal driver for former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. While working for the State Department, "Joe" as he was affectionately called, met and married Colleen Lewis. Joe and Colleen raised their four children David, Robert "Gene", Jason and Christina in District Heights Maryland. Joe retired from the State Department after 40 plus years of service and lived quietly at home with his family before his passing. Joe survived by his wife Colleen (of over 40 years) four children, his younger brother James "The Bean" and younger sister Jacqueline, his Mother Reva Alma who preceded him in death and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and other loving relatives.
