ula Noreen Freeman, 89, passed away at her home in Fort Washington, Maryland on November 25, 2024, with her husband of 57 years, David George Freeman, by her side. Noreen was an outstanding eighth grade science teacher in Prince Georges County since her graduation from the University of Maryland in 1987, teaching at Eugene Burroughs, Thurgood Marshall and Oxon Hill Middle Schools during her career. She was recognized numerous times for her accomplishments and beloved by the many students who were fortunate to be taught by Noreen. Born in Cleveland, Tennessee, one of the ten children of William Herbert Newton and Annie Sullivan Newton, Noreen moved to Dayton, Ohio where she met and married David who was employed by the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB prior to their move to the Washington DC area in 1975. Residing in the “Captain’s Cove” neighborhood in Fort Washington for over 50 years, Noreen was President of the civic association multiple times, organizer of numerous clubs and activities, assistant soccer coach and led many school and social functions in this family friendly community. Noreen hosted an annual “Las Vegas” New Years Eve party in the family home for dozens of neighbors and friends for 28 years. She was very active in supporting David’s professional career with the Department of Defense and work with his professional society, the National Contract Management Association (NCMA). Noreen was renowned for organizing and hosting cookouts and boating parties on the Piscataway Creek for neighbors, co-workers, NCMA groups and delegations from former Soviet Union countries visiting as part of important disarmament programs. She was an engaging and loving friend to so many people and beloved of her students. Noreen leaves behind husband David, daughter Kimberaly Ann Buckner and her husband Charles of Riceville, Tennessee and their children Pearl, Michael, Lisa, and Eddie and numerous grandchildren. She is survived also by her son John Marshall Freeman, his loving wife, Connie and Noreen’s other grandchildren Dylan, Kayla and Haley who miss their grandmother.
