Eva Adams - Obituary

O

ur beloved Eva Adams was born in Edgefield, South Carolina on June 6, 1949 to Penny Lucille Brown and Eddie Brown. Their union created a combined number of 14 children; and Eva was the fourth of the six children from their union together. Her parent precede her in death along with some of her siblings: Ephesian Pixley, George Pixley, Mary Pixley Thompkins, Bernice Brown, Walter Brown, Otis Brown, Queen Brown Penn, and Mattie Brown Bixby. The bonds they shard and the values they imparted remained deeply ingrained in her spirit. Eva attended W.E. Parker High School in Edgefield. She married Charlie Adams in 1967 and their union spanned for 20 years. From that union they had two children; Angela and Vince. The love she shared with her children remained a constant source of strength throughout her life. Eva relocated to Washington, D.C. in the early 1970s where she worked in Food Service, for the D.C. Head Start Program. She later started her career as a School Bus Operator for Prince George’s County Schools until she retired in 2012. She loved being around children because they brought her just as much joy as she gave to them. Generations of children remember her kindness and the positive impact and wonderful memories she gave on their journeys. Eva loved to cook, listen to music, dance, and her trips to the Casino. She was well known for her Macaroni and Cheese and baked Turkey wings and homemade Stuffing to name a few. One of her favorite past times was spending time with her siblings playing “Deuces.” Eva was a person who was determined to achieved whatever she set her mind to doing. One of her biggest accomplishments was purchasing her own home in 1997 where she hosted many cookouts and family gatherings. Her house was always filled with family, laughter and love. Almost everyone she met became like family to her; and if they needed a place to stay or something to eat, she would make sure they were taken care of. Another accomplishment she proudly bragged about was that after over 50 years of smoking, she was able to stop. As she would say: “Yea I QUIT, and don’t even think about or have a taste for them,” with a big smile on her face. Eva was a strong-willed person, and had a smile that would brighten the room. She had some health challenges that she was able to overcome including her battle with Breast Cancer that she successfully fought in 2022-23, and was in remission. Eva was recently diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer which she fought until she passed away at home on August 18th with her family by her side. Eva’s memory will be cherished by her two children Angela Strader (James), her son Vince Adams; her grandchildren, DeJuane, ShaQuonda (Joseph), Chunelle, DreVon, and Charity; and her siblings, Eddie Brown Jr., Liz Weaver (Herman), Eleanor Penn, Curtis Brown (Liz), and Lucille Barnes (Ben). Eva had eight great-grandchildren Uriah, Jurnee, Kyrie, Jodi, Milo, Jaxon, Kamora and Katalaya, who she affectionately called “her babies.” …all who she leaves to carry on her legacy of love and unwavering dedication to family and community. There are also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her infectious and warm smile filled with joy.
