Evelyn McArdle - Obituary

velyn Grace McArdle “Gracie” Evelyn Grace McArdle, “Gracie”, 73, a 48 year resident of Annapolis, died on Sunday October 31, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born September 24, 1937, in Scranton, PA to the late Archibald and Helen Grant, she was a 1955 graduate of Dunmore High School, where she was the class Salutatorian and gave the Commencement Address. Evelyn served honorably in the US Navy, and was a graduate of Class A School in Newport R.I. where she received the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. After her military career ended, she worked for the Dept. of Commerce, where she received many performance awards, retiring in the early 1990’s as an Administrative Assistant. Evelyn was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve, and loved reading, travelling and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Francis T. McArdle of Annapolis, MD, her children; Scott McArdle of Annapolis, MD, Bruce McArdle of Spotsylvania, VA, and Melissa Anne Rayhart of Crownsville, MD. Also survived by her grandchildren, Christa, Madeline Grace and Frances Tess McArdle, Jessica and Justin McArdle and Caitlin and Quentin Rayhart. Friends are invited to Evelyn’s Life Celebration on Saturday, November 6, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Services and Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Evelyn’s memory.
