ather Vincent Ferrer McHenry, O.P., a Catholic Priest in the Dominican Order for almost 65 years, died peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, February 15th,2014 at Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville, Maryland, with his sister, Anne Squadrito, at his side. He was born January 11, 1923, in Jersey City, New Jersey, son of Vincent McHenry and Alice Manion McHenry. He attended Regis High School in New York City and then Providence College, from which he graduated in 1942. He made his first vows as a Dominican friar in 1943, and was ordained to the priesthood at Saint Dominic Church, Washington, DC, on June 9, 1949. He received the S.T.L. degree from the Dominican House of Studies in 1950. Over the years he taught at Providence College and Caldwell College (Caldwell, New Jersey), and later served as chaplain to the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, New York. From there he moved to Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Manhattan, where for many years he ministered in the parish and in the neighboring hospitals. His final years were spent at Saint Dominic Priory, Washington, DC, and Sacred Heart Home, Hyattsville, Maryland. He was a devoted chaplain to the Dominican Laity. He is survived by a sister, Anne Squadrito, nieces Kathleen (Ben) Marino, Alice (Don) Furda, and Patricia (Don) Schroer; nephews James (Alison) Squadrito, Robert (Anne) Squadrito, Harry (Grace) Geyer, and William Geyer, nine great nieces and nephews, and seven great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Geyer, and a brother, Bro. Ferrer McHenry, C.S.C. Office for the Dead will take place at Saint Dominic Church, 630 E Street SW, Washington, DC, on Wednesday, February 19th at 7 p.m. where Mass of Christian Burial, will be offered at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 20th.
