elicie German Hodges, 85, a five-year resident of Annapolis and formerly of Shady Side, died of natural causes Aug. 12 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood. Born April. 14, 1922, in Ellicott City, Mrs. Hodges was an instructional aide for Anne Arundel County public schools for more than 20 years, retiring in 1984. She had also been an executive secretary for the late Louis L. Goldstein at his law firm and for Riggs Distler. She had lived for 53 years in the Shady Side community of Cedarhurst and had received numerous community awards for her flower gardens. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis and formerly of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River. She was a member of the Annapolis Ladies of the Elks Lodge, of the Anne Arundel Retired Teachers Association and an honorary member of the Old South Women's Club. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening and her pets. Survivors include two daughters, Marla Nichols of Annapolis and JoAnn Katski of Tracys Landing; one brother, Charles P. German of Ellicott City; one sister, Rose Sotak of Annapolis; and one grandson. Her husband Joseph R. Hodges died in 1992. The couple were married Nov. 24, 1945. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Burial will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicott City.
