Frances Emmette Fisher - Obituary

rances Emmett Thompson Fisher (8/24/33-7/25/26) Frances was born in Richmond, Virginia. In 1949 she met Isaac Fisher, a sailor, when her father gave him a ride as he was hitchhiking north from Norfolk. They married in 1954 in Bedford, England. Together they raised four sons while moving regularly with the Navy, to Japan, Morocco, Spain and the UK, but always returned home to Maryland. For most of her life, Frances was a stay-at-home mother. She was an active member of her community and church and she led the Youth Group at St Alban's Church in Glen Burnie while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Bowie State College. Frances taught in Anne Arundel County elementary schools dedicating herself to her students until she retired at age 65. For many years she and Ike sponsored midshipmen from the Naval Academy, providing a home away from home for dozens of young men and women. She treated them as members of her family and followed their lives and careers. Just before her 93rd birthday Frances was called home to God, having fulfilled her mission of caring for others and in turn, being cared for. She is survived by her children, Isaac Jr. of Winder GA, John Sr. (Tami) of Harwood MD, David (Elaine) of Winder, GA, Mark (Judi) of Bel Air, MD. Eight Grandchildren, Margaret, Iain (Liza), John Jr. (Jess), Zachary, Savannah, Aliza, Nichole Hall (Steve), Hailey Biese (Tristan). Four Great Grandchildren, Cole and Cohen Fisher, Greta and Anja Hall and her long dedicated cat, Luna. May she rest in peace and rise in glory, reunited with Ike, her true love of 52 years. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Navy/ Relief Fund.
