Frances Prout Rutan - Obituary

rances M. Prout Rutan An angel lent to us has returned to heaven. Frances (Fran or Franny) passed peacefully at home looking at the bay with her sons by her side on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Born November 30, 1939 in Washington, DC to the late Richard Murphy and Esther Woolls, Fran attended Catholic University and the University of Maryland and received a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering. Fran was employed by the United States Navy as an electrical engineer for 29 years. Fran touched many lives with her kind, unselfish, and compassionate deeds. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, family, and friends, entertaining at her home, teaching ceramics to children, spending time with her sons, spoiling her grandchildren, and ice cream. Fran was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Rutan, and her brother, Michael Murphy. She is survived by her sons, John Prout (Diane), James Prout (Tammy), and stepchildren, Cathy Swanson, Liam Rutan (Jory), granddaughters, Savannah Prout, Faith Jackson, and Sady Swanson, and great granddaughters, Violet and Willow Jackson. The family would like to thank home care provider, Starlette Harris, and her staff for taking such good care of Fran. Family and friends are invited to Fran’s visitation on Thursday, June 29 from 10:30-12:00, followed by her funeral service beginning at 12 p.m. at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Rd., Clinton, MD. A reception will follow the burial at the South County Deale Moose Lodge, 1401 Snug Harbor Rd., Shady Side, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity for children of your choice.
