rancis “Sonny” N. King, 78, a lifelong resident of Davidsonville died July 21, 2011 at his residence of Remission Myeloma Leukemia after a three year illness. He was born on December 21, 1932 in Davidsonville and attended schools in Anne Arundel County, but had to leave school to work on the family farm. He served two year with the United States Army. After his service, Sonny worked for a custom home builder, building homes in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s County’s. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local 132. Sonny retired as General Superintendent for Associated Builders after a 40-year career. His work included exhibits at the National Zoo, National Gallery of Art, The Smithsonian Museum of American History and multiple public schools for the DC government. But his most publicly recognized accomplishments were the six Presidential Reviewing Stands and Media Centers for five different Presidents. Sonny did all this while also being a full time farmer at his family farm in Davidsonville. He was predeceased by his first wife, Wanda King; two sisters, Betty Beck and Dory Suit; and one grandson, Marcus Foster. Sonny is survived by his wife, Bobbie King, whom he married in 1993; three sons, David, Darren and Gary King, all of Davidsonville; two grandchildren, Tyler and Sarah King, both of Davidsonville. Friends are invited to Sonny’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 26 at 10:30am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville. Interment Davidsonville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
