Francis Brian Richter, born on May 5, 1943, passed away on November 28, 2023, due to a prolonged illness of Parkinson’s Disease and most recently renal cancer.

Brian was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Richter, nee Quinn, in August of 2000.

Brian is survived by his son, Matthew Brian Richter; his wife, Barbara DeHaven Richter and their two children, Joshua and Madison of Douglassville PA; his daughter, Amy Quinn Felix and her husband, Steve G. Felix and the “First” two grandsons, Jackson Charles Reilly and Patrick Quinn Reilly, of Churchton, MD; his sister, Stephanie Stewart and her husband, James Stewart of Woodstock MD as well as a nephew, Brent Stewart and his wife, Monica and their 3 children, Sophia, Connor and Shane of Eldersburg, MD.

Brian grew up in Catonsville MD.  There he met his future wife (they lived in the same neighborhood), whom he married and had his children and moved his family to Evanston, IL where they resided until 1977.  Brian was transferred and the family moved to North Wales, PA, where both Matthew and Amy grew up. Once the kids graduated from high school the Richter’s (Amy, Carol, and Brian) moved to Kent Island, MD.  Matthew decided to stay in PA where he was attending college.  Kent Island remained Brian’s home until his illness no longer allowed him to live alone. 

Brian was known for “having the ability to sell ice to Eskimo’s” as he was always that “sales guy”, and he was great at it. He began his career with Coca-Cola in Baltimore which moved him to Illinois.  He then moved into a management position with a company called Colorcon which was a pharmaceutical company that sent him and his family to Pennsylvania.  After a few years he partnered with some other businessmen and they started Austin Chemical, a company that sold the different dyes to “Big Pharma” for their medications.   After about seven years with Austin Chemical an opportunity came about to partner in a different, more national company called Worldwide Rehabilitation and Consulting Services.  In  1987, Brian decided to go out on his own and he and his wife Carol started their own Medical Cost Containment companies, Island Consulting Services and Mercury Medical Consulting.  These companies provided long time employment for many people but was the first “real” job for his kids as well as close family friends, all of which have shared years of “antics” that have occurred over the years with Brian.
As Brian started to slow down, he became an adjunct professor in Business Management at the University of Baltimore, his alma mater.

In his spare time, Brian enjoyed playing tennis, exercising, swimming, vacationing, going to the beach, entertaining/showing off, a good Martini and cigars.  He loved all sports and desperately wanted someone in the family to go to Notre Dame….LOL, it never happened.  He loved his grandchildren and spent as much time with them as he could.

Brian has resided at South River Nursing and Rehab Center for about eight years.  He made this move due to his Parkinson’s not allowing him to care for himself and live alone.  Most recently he was sent to the hospital in late August for an apparent gall bladder attack, and at that time he found out his liver, kidneys and pancreas were all infected with cancer and he went into Hospice at the end of September where he received tremendous care.  Of course, more than anything he loved all of the care and attention and visits he got in the last months of his life and his family is so very grateful for this care from GBMC Gilchrist Hospice.
